First Chanukah here in Israel

I’m writing this after chanukah has ended, so by now the sufganiyot are all gone.  Literally.  You can’t find one anywhere.  They just completely disappear from the entire country once Chanukah ends.  But I thought I’d share with you some of our Chanukah experience through some photos of the various menorahs/channukias that we saw here during the holiday:

First, from our trip to the old city in Jerusalem, the menorah in front of the churva synagogue:

Then, in basically the same location, as if one wasn’t enough there was this one on the opposite side of the square:

At Mamilla Mall there was the chabad menorah:

That one drew quite a crowd for the lighting ceremony:

We were at the Wall for maariv, the evening service as the sun was going down and were able to see what i guess is the “official” Wall menorah:

For scale, here you can see the same menorah along the very bottom:

And you can’t miss all of the menorah light-up street decorations:

Even when we went to the children’s hospital for a routine checkup, there was this gigantic 5-story balloon menorah:

And, of course, my favourite one of all – the little one in our own little private piece of Israel:

So we had a very nice chanukah here, a very nice break from school and ulpan, and an awesome time visiting with friends and family.
