First Day of Medical Ulpan
Another transition today as I left my ulpan in Ra’anana where I’ve been for the last three months and made the trek up to Netanya to start the medical ulpan. There are 17 of us in the class: several pharmacists, a few nurses, a massage therapist, a couple of paediatricians (and weirdly, because my computer knows i’m in Israel, it autocorrects to british english, which is i guess the official version of english it thinks they use here.) a couple of general family docs, and an optometrist. The class is mostly Russian and Ukrainian with a few French and one Brazilian. I’m the only native english speaker as far as I can tell. The book we use (yes, i was a bit surprised that there is even a book for this) seems pretty good:
The timing worked out well since it starts at 8:30 AM. (the previous ulpan started at 8:00 AM). So for example, today I dropped the boys off at school (they start at 8:00AM). They didn’t bike today because it was raining. (which is actually considered a good thing here), then after ulpan I drove back in time to pick up Sol, take him for a quick falafel, grab a few sufganiot in honour of my first day of medical ulpan 😁😁, pick up a few grocery items that Val texted me, then go back to get Shai. Worked great.
The ulpan goes through Thursday, March 5. So now I will let the hospital know that that’s when I’ll be done, so I’ll plan to start work at the hospital the following week, so they can request the salary subsidy from the government for that time frame.
