January 2018 – Thinking about medical licensing
We’re working on our list of possible cities. But we also need to get jobs. And that means practicing medicine in Israel. While we assume that our licenses would transfer somehow, we don’t know any of the details. Will we need to re-take exams? In Hebrew? 😱
Luckily, the Nefesh website offers a lot of help in this regard, with an entire section dedicated to medical professionals. It seems that since we’ve been in practice for several years we won’t need to repeat any exams. But we will need to fill out several applications in Hebrew, and will need notarized copies of all of our medical diplomas and certifications. That means we need to make copies of them, and bring the copies to an Israeli notary, along with the original documents, so the notary can certify that the copy is a true copy of the original.
No big deal, right? Except that the “originals” happened to be hanging in frames on my office wall. And no one at the office knows what we’re doing. How am I supposed to get all my original diplomas and certifications to an Israeli notary without my office staff and other partners wondering what’s going on? Especially when the closest Israeli notary is located in Los Angeles?
