Today was the kids second day back at school in the COVID era.  The rules are as follows:

  1. They have a backup mask in their backpacks for when they break their first one. (this week has been a heat wave with temps above 100F; so far they have waived the mask requirement for the kids in class)
  2. They have their own personal hand sanitiser bottle
  3. The bathrooms have the actual stalls separated by grade so there will be no cross-contamination.
  4. We have to sign a form attesting to their health every morning.  They are not allowed in without it.  I have to print out each of the four forms each day.
  5. They need to bring two water bottles; the drinking fountains are inoperative.
  6. No sharing food at lunch (this is very hard on Sol, who used to trade rice krispy treats for bags of chips almost every day 😀)

Other than that, its back to normal! At least the kids get to see their friends again, and are getting some personalised attention.  They are also discussing whether to extend the school year.  I’ve heard and read different reports about this so I’m still waiting to hear the official word.

In other news, the beaches just opened up today….
