First official safety announcement from the army, city, and schools

We received this WhatsApp message this morning.  All the schools in Tel-Aviv were closed due to the rockets.  It seems they have stopped for now.  In Ra’anana where we live, a bit north of Tel-Aviv, everything was open as usual. But we discussed the news reports in our ulpan class and went over where the emergency exits are and where the closed bomb shelter is located (the building next door in our case)  As of now, schools here are open but extracurriculars are canceled.  (Our kids have a an Israeli Scouts meeting tonight so we’ll see what happens with that…)

So far nothing here has actually happened and nothing is different.  Its just our first time receiving messages like this.  Hopefully nothing more will come of it.

And our ulpan teacher shared with us some messages she received which were jokes, as is the way Israelis here deal with these situations.  For example:
“In light of the situation (i.e. that school is cancelled and like all of us she just found out about it this morning after she had already made lunch for the kids),
For Sale: 3 sandwiches, 1 omelette, 2 chocolate milks.  Condition: excellent, like new!
