Small town perfect for biking
We finally bought some bicycles. I already have a nice Cannondale hybrid in storage in Phoenix but I decided to get another one here. The kids had outgrown theirs and so would have needed new ones anyway. The first bike store we looked at carried very nice bikes, European brands, and was outrageously expensive. Then we found out about another local store which turned out to be much cheaper. They carried some Chinese (i think?) brands that we’ve never heard of. Perfect for our needs! I am used to the larger wheel size of a road bike/hybrid but here for local city use the smaller wheels and thicker mountain bike tires work pretty well. You’re biking on a combination of sidewalks and streets, asphalt and broken cobblestones, gravel and grass, etc. And the city is small enough to bike most anywhere. The boys are now biking to and from school by themselves! (They’re 10 years old, in fifth grade.)
And its even possible to bike to some of the adjacent towns. Last week Sol and I biked to the beach from our apartment. That covered the entire length of Ra’anana and Herzliya, about 12km or 7.5 miles each way. It took a little under an hour. (you just can’t go very fast with the traffic, people, little hills, obstacles, etc…)
I’ve started biking to Ulpan in the mornings sometimes as well. Its fun, good exercise, and refreshing. Honestly, it makes me feel like a kid again!
And in the meantime, the rocket fire continues…..
