trip to Winnipeg. Told extended Winnipeg family, including my 96yo babie/grandmother.
we planned a trip to Winnipeg, primarily to see babie. She’s doing pretty well for 96, except for some significant memory issues. Because we’re leaving next summer, I’m not sure when we will get there again. Because that’s where both my parents are from, I felt it was important that we visit the cemeteries where our relatives are buried, as far back as we go before the families came over from “the old country.” And, of course, see all of our current Winnipeg family as well.
The trip to the cemeteries was nice. The kids are old enough to understand. I know that many in our family (and not just in our family) going back for generations would have given anything for the chance to be able to do what we are doing. I hope I was able to communicate somehow to these generations past what we are doing. I think/hope they would be proud.
The rest of the family was pretty much stunned – many of our cousins, and my dad’s brother and his wife. Almost speechless. I mean, what do you say to that, anyway? But everyone was supportive, and there were a few excited promises to visit as well.
