I told my parents.

They just arrived in Phoenix from Minneapolis – they had been in Winnipeg dealing with my mom’s mom who has been having more memory issues.   I think she knows it, which might be why she apparently cries all the time when they see her.  There is a lot on their plate right now. There is never a good time, but I just added a huge stress for them to worry about by telling them that I’m thinking of making aliyah. They took it pretty well I guess.  They mentioned all the expected stuff about is this a midlife crisis, life is very hard there, financially hard, bureaucratically annoying, waiting in line for everything, etc.  They’re also worried about the stress on our marriage and also how it will affect the kids.  They’re concerned about finding a diverse enough community to accommodate my more religious needs and Val’s not quite as religious needs.  But at least they didn’t totally flip out.  And most of what they mentioned I agree with and will have to contend with.
