Told some of the extended family.

My parents know, but nobody else in the family does.  That’s been hard for my parents, because they’re used to talking with their siblings about major life things like this and they haven’t been able to do that yet.  And, we have a trip to Winnipeg coming up, at which point I will see my 96yo grandmother and a lot of the other Winnipeg family members, cousins, etc.  And it would be very weird to not let them know at that time. But before I can do that, I have to let my closest extended family know – my first cousins and uncles and aunts.  (And just in case you’re wondering, yes, Matt, my brother, has already known for some time.  That’s just the way it goes with brothers)

So yesterday I started with my first cousins, and today I continued with my uncles and aunts.  One of them pretty much guessed it once I said “I have something to discuss.”  Wow.  Very impressive.  The rest seemed surprised, but after some thought perhaps not that much.  Well.  Yeah, I guess still pretty surprised.   In a sort of  – yeah, you always were the weirdly jewy one – sort of way.

One was particularly funny when he or she 😉, having secured a solid livelihood, moved into a nice house in a nice jewish community replete with jewish schools, summer camps etc, said in humorous exasperation something to the effect of, “After years and years I had finally just about caught up to you, and now you have to go and pull this!”

What they didn’t know (or maybe they did – and if they didn’t, they do now), is my secret plan to entice all of them to make the same move once we’re cemented in place….
